Advantages and disadvantages
Many insurance organizations offer their clients a number of additional bonuses when concluding a DOSAGO contract.
For example, such as:
- Concluding an accident insurance agreement with the insurer. Those. It is planned to purchase two insurance products. In addition to an additional motor vehicle policy, the policyholder can also insure himself and passengers against an unforeseen situation in the event of an accident.
- Free evacuation of cars from the scene of an accident. The usual cost of this service is about 3,000 rubles, but you can call a tow truck through the SK remote control.
- Departure to the scene of an accident by a motor vehicle commissioner. You should carefully read the contract, since many insurance companies do not provide such a service.
- Provision of services by the insurance company for collecting the necessary documentation for making payments.
- Payments of compensation, in the calculation of which depreciation of the car is not taken into account.
- Providing services if your car breaks down on the road. Either a vehicle commissioner goes to the place where the car has broken down, or the car can be evacuated to a service station.
Very often, insurance company agents offer to conclude an additional insurance contract when renewing a compulsory motor liability insurance policy. At the same time, they will tell you about the terrible rates of accidents on the roads today. In fact, no one knows for sure whether a DSAGO policy is really necessary, as the insurance company agents say (you can find out more about DSAGO in OSAGO here).
Many car enthusiasts believe that such insurance will help cover all the costs of expensive repairs. But is this true?
In fact, insurance companies simply suppress many facts. Of course, such an insurance contract has its advantages, but is this contract really necessary as insurance agents present it? The advantages of such a policy are obvious:
- It's not very expensive.
- A large number of insurance companies offer a number of discounts in addition to the contract.
- Such a contract includes many risks that will be considered an insured event.
Attention! If you confidently drive your car and have extensive driving experience, you carefully monitor the serviceability of the car and, in general, use it several times a year, then you are unlikely to need such an agreement.
Another thing is if your driving experience is short and you need additional insurance, then yes, you will simply need a DSAGO policy.
Once a year you will pay an insignificant amount to the insurance company for the purchase of such an insurance product, but you will feel calm behind the wheel all year.
What is DSAGO and why is it needed?
Reviews on alpha insurance insurance
You may have already encountered this designation before, but often, when talking about this type of insurance, people immediately have a question: what is extended MTPL (DSAGO, DOSAGO, DGO)?
A compulsory motor vehicle policy has its own limit of payments in the event of an accident. However, the insurance company cannot always cover the damage caused, which usually leads to the owner of the damaged car paying a certain amount out of his own pocket. DSAGO prevents these situations due to the fact that it has an increased limit of insurance payments (from 300 thousand to 15 million).
Based on this, it becomes clear that if you are not satisfied with the amount of coverage, then you can expand your MTPL policy on a voluntary basis.
So, what is DGO insurance? To make it easier for you to recognize it, this insurance has the following characteristics:
- DSAGO is a supplement to OSAGO. Without a mandatory policy, an additional one cannot be issued;
- The cost, requirements and payment limit are set exclusively by the insurance company;
- Payments under MTPL are made only if MTPL cannot fully cover the insured event;
- The maximum amount of payments is made by the owner of the vehicle.
Important!
Do not confuse DSAGO and CASCO, as these are two different things. DSAGO is a supplement to compulsory motor liability insurance, and they, in turn, only cover insurance cases related to road accidents. As for CASCO, this type of insurance applies exclusively to your car.
The need for an extended MTPL policy
Additional insurance guarantees under compulsory motor liability insurance allow you to fully cover the damage that was caused to the injured party. The car owner himself will not bear any costs. If you have an extended policy, the matter remains with the insurance company you contacted. At her expense, cars are repaired, victims are treated, and much more.
If the amount for extended compulsory motor liability insurance, which is the maximum amount for covering all losses resulting from an accident on the road, is not enough for the car owner, then he can take advantage of the additional capabilities of compulsory motor liability insurance and take out an extended version of the policy. This becomes very beneficial when several cars are damaged and there are casualties, including pedestrians.
Under a standard MTPL policy, the maximum payments are not even enough, taking into account the cost of repair work and provision of necessary assistance in medical institutions. So it’s better to take extra, which is not provided for by law.
DSAGO insurance. What is DSAGO
money-trans.ruGAP insurance for comprehensive insurance
DSAGO (aka DAGO, aka DGO, aka DoSAGO) – voluntary motor third party liability insurance for car owners of third parties.
The MTPL agreement establishes a “ceiling” of insurance coverage. For harm caused to life or health up to 500 thousand rubles, for damage caused to property (iron) up to 400 thousand rubles. In the event that the damage exceeds a certain limit, the culprit pays the missing part of the money independently or through a DSAGO policy, which is concluded separately.
Attention! DSAGO insurance is an addition to compulsory motor liability insurance in cases where the amount of loss exceeds the limit of payments under compulsory motor liability insurance.
The insured amount, as well as the cost of the policy, is established by agreement of the parties. Unlike MTPL, the cost of a DSAGO policy is different in all companies and is set depending on the sum insured, length of service and age of drivers. The average cost of DSAGO is from 2000 rubles. up to 3000 rub.
The DSAGO agreement establishes a deductible equal to the payment limit for compulsory motor liability insurance. According to the rules, the validity period of DSAGO insurance must be equal to the validity period of OSAGO insurance.
Why is DSAGO relevant and why is it even needed?
Here are a few examples in favor of purchasing a DSAGO policy.
Firstly: the average price of an MTPL policy is from 5,500 to 6,500 rubles. (payments up to 400,000 rubles), whereas for a policy worth 2,500 rubles. payments under DSAGO are about 1 million rubles.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=2nKbwx4Wtqg
Secondly: payments under compulsory motor liability insurance are not enough for every fifth victim.
Cost of DSAGO. DSAGO tariffs
As mentioned earlier, the cost of DSAGO in all companies is different, since the type of insurance is voluntary. In addition, the conditions and tariffs of DSAGO insurance companies may also vary.
DSAGO Reso
The peculiarity of this insurance is that there are more accurate calculations of the cost of DSAGO. For example, if the driver is under 22 years old or has less than 2 years of experience, an increasing factor is applied. Let's look at an illustrative example: a driver is 24 years old, his experience is 1 year and he issues a DSAGO for 600,000 rubles.
Do not forget that payments under DSAGO are made taking into account the wear and tear of the car, so if you want to protect yourself, choose insurance without taking into account wear and tear. Reso company is one of the few that offers this service.
DSAGO Yugoria
A special feature of DSAGO insurance in Yugoria is that the policy can be additionally issued both for compulsory motor vehicle liability insurance purchased in Yugoria and from another company.
Advice! Unfortunately, not all motorists want to protect themselves by taking out an additional DSAGO policy. There are three reasons for this. Firstly, most drivers do not know what payments are included in the compulsory motor liability insurance policy. Secondly, many people hope for “maybe” (...let's hope this doesn't happen to me...).
Thirdly, self-confidence, (...I’ve been driving for 20 years and not a single accident...), while forgetting that there are a huge number of “car substitutes” on the road. And finally, fourthly, all the previous points combined (the most common option). And this despite the fact that the average cost of a DSAGO policy for one million is only 1,500 rubles.
Other types of insurance
There are a number of other types of car insurance. For example, from accidents. In this option, it is not the car itself that is insured, but the people in it. Insurance is provided from:
- loss of health as a result of an accident;
- of death;
- loss of disability in the event of an accident.
This type of insurance also refers to voluntary insurance; the policy insures people who are traveling in a car and are in it at the time of the accident. In this case, the car owner must wait for the arrival of the traffic police.
When traveling to other countries, the car must be insured under the Green Card system. This is a mandatory type of insurance required for Schengen countries. The policy can be issued either in one of the Russian insurance companies or at the customs post.
Thus, vehicle insurance is a necessary tool to protect the client’s financial capabilities. You can insure civil liability or the car itself. In any case, if an accident occurs, it is not the car owner who will pay for the damage, but the insurance company.
Extended DSAGO
A-Smith Blog Do-it-yourself sandblasting machine or collective farm is a voluntary matter
Competition in the insurance market of St. Petersburg is constantly increasing. Fighting for clients, insurers began to provide additional services when purchasing DSAGO. In principle, it is quite difficult to meet a “pure” extension of compulsory motor liability insurance today. Everyone gives some gift in addition.
The most common services included with DGS are:
Emergency commissioner. It’s simple, you take out insurance and, in addition, get a free emergency service visit. True, in most cases, a list of cases in which the emergency commissioner for compulsory motor insurance does not come is printed in fine print. Read carefully, because sometimes it turns out that in practice it is impossible to call the commissioner.
Payment without depreciation. You may be surprised, but payment under compulsory motor liability insurance is always carried out taking into account wear and tear. For a seven-year-old car it can be about 70%. So situations arise when the payment turns out to be several times less than the actual costs of repairs. Sometimes people sue the person responsible for the accident, demanding compensation for the part “cut off” by wear and tear. By purchasing the DSAGO extension with the additional “no wear and tear” option, motorists injured due to your fault will receive full insurance compensation, as for a new car.
Free evacuation. To evacuate a damaged car you will need to pay about three thousand rubles. Some DSAGO insurances compensate for the costs of towing a car. However, be careful, a tow truck can only be called through the control panel of the insurance company.
Collection of information. Any road accident is a headache and, first of all, it is associated with collecting certificates from the competent authorities. You have to wait in huge queues and waste the whole day. This service will save the client from such problems, because the emergency commissioner will collect certificates for him. Everything would be fine if not for one thing. Insurance companies are silent that this service does not operate in St. Petersburg. Our traffic cops require the personal presence of the participants in the accident when registering and analyzing the accident. As a result, an option that seems useful at first glance turns out to be a fiction.
Roadside assistance. If your car has a minor breakdown, an emergency commissioner will come to you and help you fix the problem. If this cannot be done on the spot, the car will be towed free of charge to the nearest service station.
Accident insurance. In fact, you get two policies. Firstly, you increase your liability under compulsory motor liability insurance, and secondly, you insure yourself and your passengers against accidents during an accident. The amounts are not very large, so there is no particular point in this additional insurance.
We are in no way campaigning for or against. Undoubtedly, the expansion of DSAGO is a necessary insurance product, it’s just that the need to purchase it is greatly exaggerated. Of course, it may be useful to some residents of large cities, such as St. Petersburg or Moscow, where the number of expensive foreign cars is growing every year.
Analyze your driving style and honestly answer yourself the question: what is the likelihood of becoming the culprit of a major accident. If you are an experienced driver who does not like recklessness and always follows the rules of the road, then this is almost impossible. But if you have doubts, then it’s better to buy additional DSAGO, because this is a very small price to pay for peace of mind on the road.

The MTPL liability limit for hardware is 400,000 rubles. But what if the damage from the accident exceeds this value? In such a situation, the difference will have to be paid by the person responsible for the accident, unless he purchased a DSAGO (voluntary motor third-party liability insurance) policy in advance.
Insurers use different abbreviations for this insurance. The most commonly used is DSAGO, but it can also be DoSAGO, DGO, DAGO or DSGO. Quite rightly, such insurance is often called “extended compulsory motor liability insurance”.
Payments under MTPL and extended MTPL
The amount of payment under compulsory motor liability insurance and motor liability insurance differs. It's easiest to understand with an example. In the first case, the process is regulated by Article 7 of Federal Law No. 40 of April 25, 2002. The limit is 400,000 rubles if damage was caused only to cars, or 500,000 rubles if people were injured. During the calculation process, wear and tear is taken into account (Article 12 of Federal Law No. 40 on OSAGO). The limit on DSAGO is not established by current legislation. Insurers have the right to determine it themselves. The parameter is fixed in the contract concluded with the driver.
The calculation of compensation is carried out in accordance with the formulas. The cost of repairs is taken into account. Resolution of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation No. 432-p reflects a list of all possible works and standard hours for their implementation. The cost of repairs is determined in accordance with RSA reference books.
Let’s say a foreign-made car made in 2012 with mileage is involved in an accident in 2021. The examination found that the level of wear was 35%. To restore a vehicle, you must perform the following work:
- wheel balancing;
- bumper replacement and painting;
- wheel arch repair;
- replacing one of the headlights.
The following formula is used for calculation:
Рк = Cost of work + Cost of materials + Cost of spare parts, taking into account wear and tear.
The cost of new parts was 6,500 rubles. This takes wear and tear into account. As a result, the figure will drop to 4225 rubles. You will need to pay 3100 rubles for the work. The consumables in this case are paint. Another 1,540 rubles will be charged for it. As a result, the price of general repairs will be 8865 rubles.
When it comes to compensation under an extended MTPL policy, wear and tear is usually not taken into account. It all depends on the specifics of the contract. When determining the amount of payment, the same scheme is used as when calculating the amount of compensation under compulsory motor liability insurance. However, acceptable limits will vary significantly. Let's say there's an accident. The amount of damage caused amounted to 500,000 rubles. There were no casualties. In accordance with the provisions of Art. 7 Federal Law No. 40 dated April 25, 2002, the amount of payment under compulsory motor liability insurance will be 400,000 rubles.
The car owner must pay the remaining amount himself. However, if a citizen has extended insurance, the limit for which, say, is 1,200,000 rubles, the insurer will fully compensate for the costs. As a result, the person at fault will not have to provide compensation from personal funds. A similar rule applies if damage to health is caused. However, in this situation, the limit for classic MTPL insurance is 500,000 rubles. (Article 7 of Federal Law No. 40 of April 25, 2002).
Voluntary motor third party liability insurance, or DSAGO DoSAGO in 2021
Car insurance in the Russian Federation is divided into several types, and only one of them is mandatory - compulsory motor liability insurance. All other types of protection are voluntary. Their main feature is expanded possibilities for damage compensation, that is, an increased amount of compensation and a greater number of covered risks. One example of voluntary insurance is DoSAGO (DSAGO).
The most popular way of voluntary car protection is CASCO. This is comprehensive insurance aimed at covering not only damage in an accident, but also against damage (for example, a tree falling on the car, driving into a ditch, etc.), theft, or complete loss of the vehicle. The sum insured under CASCO is usually equal to the market value of the car. A special feature of this type of protection is its high cost.
Other examples of voluntary car insurance in 2021 are:
- protection against accidents under the CASCO policy, when damage to life and health is also added to the covered risks;
- "Green map";
- DSAGO.
This type of protection is just beginning to gain popularity in Russia, so many drivers are asking the question: “DoSAGO - what is it, and how does this insurance work?” Essentially, this is an extended version of the MTPL policy. Voluntary insurance of civil liability of car owners involves protecting the liability of the car owner to third parties whose property or health was damaged. Compensation payments under the DSAGO policy are received by third parties.
The main need for taking out insurance with an extension is to increase the amount of insurance payment.
When calculating the amount of compensation, insurers underestimate the amount of compensation, taking into account the wear and tear of the vehicle. Often the payment amount is reduced by 20-25%. In other situations, the damage caused exceeds the maximum amount of compensation under MTPL. After all, treatment of the driver and his passengers, as well as repairs to the car of the person responsible for the accident, are not paid for under compulsory insurance. In such cases, DoSAGO is used. With the help of this policy, the owner has the opportunity to increase the insurance payment to an amount that he determines independently.
When applying for DSAGO, it is important to take into account the following features of this insurance:
- An agreement can only be concluded if you have a valid MTPL policy.
- The validity period of DoSAGO is similar to the period under OSAGO.
- The car owner has the right to independently choose the insurance amount. It varies between 300 thousand and 3 million rubles.
- The insurer can independently determine tariffs for DoSAGO. When calculating the insurance premium, factors such as the age of the motorist, his driving experience, insurance class and vehicle power are taken into account.
- Transfer of compensation under DSAGO occurs only after payment has been made for compulsory insurance.
- If the accident occurred due to the fault of a person not named in the policy, no compensation will be paid.
- The agreement contains a deductible equal to the limit of payments under compulsory motor liability insurance. The deductible in car insurance is the part of the insurance compensation that the motorist voluntarily renounces upon the occurrence of an insured event. Since reimbursement under MTPL occurs first, this amount under MTPL becomes a deductible.
- Novice drivers.
- Residents of large cities with busy traffic flow.
- Fans of driving on highways.
DoSAGO insurance is designed to cover damage caused to third parties. These include the following risks:
- property damage – to a car, road infrastructure, buildings;
- damage to life and health of third parties during an accident - other drivers, pedestrians, passengers.
The operating principle of the extended policy is as follows:
- A traffic accident occurs due to the fault of the person who purchased voluntary insurance.
- The established limit for compulsory motor liability insurance is not enough to cover the losses of persons injured in the accident.
- Losses in excess of the limit under a mandatory policy are paid within the framework of DoSAGO.
It is most convenient to present the differences between these types of insurance in a tabular format.
Cost calculation
Unlike MTPL, when taking out an extended policy, the vehicle owner has the right to choose the amount of increased coverage. As a rule, it ranges from three hundred thousand to a million rubles. As for the price for insurance, in most cases it is equal to one and a half or two percent of the coverage amount. For example, a DSAGO with a limit of one million will cost approximately two thousand rubles.
The cost, as noted above, is set by the insurer without government regulation and will depend on the following factors:
- The tariffs set by the insurance company are related to the FAC, year of manufacture of the car and other aspects.
- Selected coverage limit in case of an accident.
- A set of additional services and options, for example, evacuation.
- The number of vehicle drivers and the level of wear and tear of the vehicle, as well as its class.
Voluntary liability insurance is most beneficial for experienced drivers of new cars.
Who should buy additional contracts?
In recent years, the number of expensive cars on the roads has increased significantly. The cost of these vehicles amounts to millions of rubles. It is clear that having crashed such a car, the culprit of the accident, with the help of his compulsory insurance, will not be able to cover even half of the damage caused. To avoid such situations, traffic police officers and specialists in the field of automobile law recommend purchasing additional insurance for the following categories of drivers:
- Residents of megacities, where traffic volumes on the roads can put even those with extensive driving experience in a difficult situation.
- Drivers who regularly use highways.
- Recent driving school graduates.
- Road users with a dangerous driving style.
These categories are in the so-called “risk zone”, so additional insurance will not hurt them.
Extended MTPL insurance, what it is and how it is applied for
At the moment, any company that deals with this can obtain voluntary insurance. Some organizations can combine several insurances for you - this is quite convenient. You do not have to go to various departments and institutions - if a situation arises in which insurance work is required, you only need to contact one place, and the same organization will deal with your case. The payment of the compensation amount will be the responsibility of your insurance company.
Photo from MyCars24.ru website
This is one option where you purchase both insurances at once. However, there is another way - you can buy DoSAGO separately from the mandatory one. When purchasing this policy, you need to take into account such a factor as the type of payment you have chosen. This may be compensation in which wear and tear is taken into account or, conversely, without it being taken into account.
Important
Depreciation is the length of time you use the car; the longer the car is in operation, the more wear and tear, and accordingly, the amount of compensation is less.
When choosing between these two options, you should know that the second one is more profitable. The victim of an accident receives the full amount of compensation for damages, because it does not depend on anything, but of course this format will be somewhat more expensive. Next we will move on to the nuances of design.
What is DSAGO
This insurance product is offered by many companies, and it is chosen by each car owner on a voluntary basis. Before purchasing it, it is necessary to study the conditions under which it is issued, and they are determined independently by all insurance organizations.
Important! The disadvantage of compulsory motor liability insurance, which is a mandatory insurance policy, is considered to be a small amount of money, which can be paid out as much as possible after an accident, so many people need to demand additional funds from the culprit of the accident.
The difference between DSAGO is that insurance companies increase the amount of money that can be paid to policyholders if they are involved in an accident where they are the injured party. Therefore, the purpose of DSAGO is:
- an insurance policy is purchased only after a voluntary decision is made by the car owner;
- the limited amount that is paid to injured participants in road accidents by insurance companies increases.
Important! DSAGO is not a replacement for compulsory motor liability insurance, so if there is a need for a DSAGO policy, you will have to buy two of these documents
Decoding DSAGO
DSAGO is a Voluntary Auto Civil Liability Insurance. An important difference between this document and standard MTPL is that it is purchased and chosen by vehicle owners exclusively on a voluntary basis. The cost of a DSAGO policy can vary significantly among different insurance organizations.

DSAGO rules
Before purchasing this document, there are some rules that every car owner should know about:
- You can buy a policy only after receiving the OSAGO document;
- its cost may vary, so for a profitable purchase, be sure to study the offers of various insurance companies;
- In order to study all the rules of cooperation with a particular organization, you must consult with its specialists before directly paying for the policy.
Thus, the purchase of MTPL is considered optimal for car owners who have expensive vehicles, so even minor damage in an accident leads to the need to spend significant money on repairs, and payments under MTPL are not sufficient to cover all losses.
The cost of the policy and factors influencing it
The cost of this policy depends entirely on the pricing policy of the selected insurance company. At the same time, it is influenced by various significant factors, which include:
- type of car, since a domestic vehicle will be insured at a lower cost compared to a foreign expensive car, and this is due to the fact that the price of the cars themselves is significantly different;
- the amount of the maximum payment that will be paid to the injured party in an accident, and this amount can be chosen by the car owner himself, and the employees of the insurance company are based on this parameter in the process of determining the cost of the policy;
- the period for which the policy is purchased, and you can choose several months or a year, and the cost of such policies will differ significantly;
- year of manufacture of the car, since for new cars the cost of insurance will be less than for old cars;
- the power of the engine in the car, however, some insurance companies do not take this factor into account when determining the cost of insurance;
- the age of each person who will be included in the insurance and will therefore have the right to use the car;
- insurance experience of future drivers, since if it is less than three years even for one person included in the insurance, then its cost will be significantly increased.
This video will tell you why it’s worth doing DSAGO:
Important! The maximum amount that can be paid to the owner of the policy can even be several million rubles, however, for small regions where the number of cars is not considered too significant, choosing such a significant amount is considered inappropriate
Which insurance to choose: OSAGO, DSAGO, CASCO or Green Card
The abbreviations CASCO and OSAGO have long been heard by motorists. But some people don’t fully understand how they fundamentally differ. But there is also DSAGO, which few people have heard of. The hero of our article today, Vasily Ivanov, recently received his license. And now, having bought a new car, he also explores the insurance market. Let's help him figure this out.
Friends told Vasily that he couldn’t drive a car without an insurance policy. Back in 2002, the State Duma approved the corresponding federal law. An insurance policy began to be required literally everywhere - during the registration of the purchase and sale of a car, when re-registering the car to another person, during a technical inspection, and, most importantly, when stopped by a traffic police inspector.
Someone else's repairs - at your expense at the expense of the insurance company
Our hero Vasily went straight to the insurance company. Of the two proposed options - CASCO or OSAGO - I chose the latter. It turned out cheaper. In addition, it turned out that the MTPL policy would have to be purchased in any case. It is no coincidence that even in the abbreviation the word mandatory is hidden - Mandatory Auto Civil Liability Insurance.
So, after some time, Vasya, unsuccessfully leaving the parking lot of a shopping center, hits another car. Having called the traffic police and the insurer and filed everything correctly, our hero seeks the payments that he receives... the driver of the dented car. Despite huge expectations, the insurance company did not pay him anything. Violation? No. The fact is that compulsory motor liability insurance is just civil liability insurance for the driver if he damaged someone else’s property or caused harm to the health of other people. Therefore, only the injured party receives money from the insurer. In other words, because the person who caused the accident was insured, the costs of repairing someone else's car and treating pedestrians who were hit are covered by insurers.
Extended MTPL
So, a year has passed. Vasily again turned to the insurance company for an MTPL policy. Only the price for a “citizen car” turned out to be much more significant than a year ago. The agent explained that the cost of the insurance policy is calculated according to a special formula, which is influenced by the region, engine power, the number of drivers allowed to drive this car and their experience, as well as the number of claims for payments for previous accidents. The accident that our hero caused a year earlier influenced the final price of the MTPL policy. By increasing the cost of the auto insurance policy, the insurance company compensates for its costs of paying compensation for insured events and insures against financial losses in the future.
Several months have passed since the purchase of the MTPL policy. Vasily slowly trudged along Volgogradka, busy during rush hour, and, looking at a pretty girl passing by, drove straight into the back of a Lamborghini. So what? Moscow too. It’s not surprising that in front of you there might be a car worth 3 million dollars. Okay, the blow wasn't too strong. For the rear bumper, even in a non-original version, they counted 300 thousand rubles, plus repair costs. However, our hero did not worry - he has an MTPL policy.
Imagine Vasya’s surprise when, some time later, he found a notice from the court in his mailbox demanding that he pay the Lamborghini owner 220 thousand rubles.
And then our hero finds out that, according to the law, the amount of payments under compulsory motor liability insurance is limited to 400 thousand rubles if only property is damaged, and 500 thousand rubles if there are victims and treatment is required. By the way, if drivers leave the scene of an accident according to the European Protocol, the maximum amount of insurance payments will be only 100 thousand rubles. Its owner spent 620 thousand rubles on repairs to an expensive foreign car. Part of the costs was covered by the insurance company. And in order to reimburse the balance, the owner of Lamborghini filed a lawsuit against Vasily, which he had every right to do. Actually, the trial was won.
In such cases, DSAGO would help Vasya. In fact, this is just an extended version of OSAGO. The policy allows you to increase the amount of compensation for “car insurance” to 3 million rubles. This would help fully reimburse the cost of restoring the victim's car.
Car in a helmet
But what to do with your own car? Is it possible to restore it through insurance? Eat. If you don’t want to rack your brains anymore about how much money to restore your own car after an accident, then a CASCO policy is an ideal, albeit rather expensive, option.
The abbreviation has no decoding, and the word itself comes from the Italian “casco”, that is, “helmet” or “helmet”. And indeed, if a car is insured under this system, then it is as if it is in a helmet, that is, under financial protection. CASCO insurance does not insure compensation for damage to those whom the driver harmed during an accident, but directly the insured’s vehicle. In this case, it does not matter at all whether he is at fault for the accident or not - in any case, his car will be repaired at insurance expense. An insurance company can refuse to pay under CASCO only if the driver was drunk at the time of the accident or left the scene of the accident without waiting for the report to be completed.
The amount of payments is limited to the value of the car at the time of signing the contract with the insurance company. In this case, not the market value, but its residual value is taken into account. It is impossible to receive compensation for a used car as for a new one. That is why there is little point in taking out this policy for an old car - you will pay more for the insurance itself than you will receive as a result of an insured event. And they will generally refuse to insure you with CASCO insurance for a car older than 10 years.
Typically, CASCO is preferred by owners of new expensive foreign cars. In addition, if the driver decides to purchase a car on credit, the bank will also oblige him to purchase this expensive policy. It allows you to insure your car not only against possible accidents, but even against theft.
Travel protection
Let's return to our hero. Vasily and his friends were planning a road trip around Europe this summer. The only problem is that policies valid in Russia will not work abroad. You will have to acquire a so-called “green card”. This is an international insurance policy valid in European countries (including the Schengen area), and it is named so because insurance policies are traditionally printed on green forms. In essence, this is a system similar to MTPL policies in our country. If Vasily crashes into a car abroad, its owner will be able to compensate for the costs of repairs using a “green card”. You can apply for it directly at customs posts - there are 24-hour points for selling insurance policies.
Which policy to choose?
Let's start with the fact that neither CASCO nor DSAGO cancels the need to be insured under “motor insurance”. Further choices will be based on what kind of car you drive. There is no particular need to insure a 7-year-old VAZ under CASCO, since the insurance company includes in the insurance price all possible risks of damage to the car, including its age and technical condition. And the cost of the policy will be golden. But in a new foreign car you will feel much more confident, having CASCO insurance in your wallet.
DSAGO is not that expensive. For a thousand rubles you can double the insurance payment in case of damage to another driver. And since the cars on the capital’s roads are now entirely expensive foreign cars, this additional payment can more than pay for itself!

DOSAGO what is it and why is it needed
In the event of a more or less serious accident, the amount of 120 (160) thousand rubles may simply not be enough. In this case, repairs to someone else's property will have to be paid for out of your own pocket. This is followed by an offer to buy the DSAGO extension and instantly get rid of the impending threat.
It’s not that they are obviously deceiving us, they are just trying not to tell the whole truth. Don’t be alarmed, the DSAGO policy really works and if a significant accident occurs, the insurer will compensate for the damage. The catch is different: the likelihood of such events is grossly exaggerated. Real statistics say that the damage from an average accident is 15,000 rubles. In urban environments, most accidents are limited to minor scratches. It is quite difficult to manage to damage even an expensive foreign car worth 120,000 rubles. In addition, even after exceeding the liability limit, not every motorist will go to court with the culprit of the accident, because this is a waste of time, and the prospects are quite vague.
According to independent experts, the expansion of compulsory motor liability insurance will be really useful:
- Young and inexperienced drivers. When driving for the first time, a person is exposed to enormous stress. Lack of experience and insufficient knowledge of traffic rules act as emergency magnets. In this case, voluntary insurance protection will not hurt.
- For lovers of high speed and aggressive driving style. If you are a supporter of hard driving and regularly violate traffic rules, then DSAGO insurance is simply necessary for you.
But oddly enough, OSAGO extensions are usually purchased by experienced motorists who have bought into the tricks of insurance companies. As a result, insurers receive excess profits, because there are practically no payments under DSAGO. This is one of the most break-even types of auto insurance. Now, after highlighting an alternative point of view, you can make an objective and independent decision about the need to purchase this insurance product.
What is extended compulsory motor liability insurance?
Martin
Auto Guide, Articles
Today all motorists know about compulsory MTPL car insurance, but not everyone knows that there is also an extended MTPL.
What is the difference between these options, and what does DSAGO provide?
As you know, a compulsory motor liability insurance policy makes it possible to compensate for damage incurred during a traffic accident. However, everyone also knows that the amount of payments due under a compulsory insurance policy is strictly limited by law. That is why it is not always possible to receive full compensation for the damage caused, especially for owners of expensive cars. Typically, in such cases, insurance only covers part of the repair costs. Some people are happy with this, but others are not. Especially for those who want the insurance company to fully cover all damage, the so-called extended compulsory motor liability insurance was developed. This policy is an addition to compulsory insurance, but it cannot be purchased separately from the main one. The advantage of DSAGO is that the policyholder can expand the amount of insurance as much as he likes. Of course, you need to understand that the cost of insurance will then also increase, but in the future you will be able to receive full compensation.
After the occurrence of an insured event, the first thing to do is pay out under the main MTPL policy. If this amount is not enough to cover all the damage, DSAGO comes to the rescue. Extended insurance is a real salvation when several cars are damaged in an accident. Regular insurance would hardly be able to cover the costs, but DSAGO could easily cover it.
How to apply for DSAGO?
In order to apply for an extended compulsory motor liability insurance, you just need to come to the office of the insurance company and provide a package of documents. You need to have an MTPL policy, the policyholder’s passport, documents for the car, and a driver’s license with you. Then the insurance agents will do everything themselves, you just need to check all the conditions and pay extra to increase the insurance amount. When an insured event occurs, the procedure for receiving payment is exactly the same as for payments with compulsory motor liability insurance. You register an accident, receive the relevant document from the traffic police, submit all documents to the insurance company and wait for compensation within the established time frame.
How is the cost of extended insurance determined?
As a rule, each company determines the cost of DSAGO policies independently. Tariffs may vary depending on the level and scale of the insurer. However, in general, the principle of calculating the final cost is similar to how compulsory motor liability insurance is calculated. Such parameters as the age of the policyholder, his driving experience, as well as the power and age of the car are taken into account. Well, of course, the final cost of an extended insurance policy will depend on the sum insured, which can vary from 2-3 thousand to several million rubles.
Is it worth applying for DSAGO?
When you take out an MTPL policy, the insurance agent will most likely offer you extended insurance and assure you that you can’t live without it today. However, you should not fall for the insurer's tricks. The fact is that, in principle, compulsory insurance is enough for most motorists. In rare cases, it becomes necessary to register a DSAGO. Basically, the services of extended insurance are used by newcomers to the road, since it is in the first years of driving that most accidents occur.
How to refuse additional insurance?
The Consumer Protection Law states that add. insurance means voluntary and you can completely refuse by submitting a corresponding application to the insurance company, writing in free form. Even if a life insurance agreement was previously drawn up, insurers are required to terminate it from the moment the application is submitted.
Sellers or motorists are free to choose services (purchases) and this is stated in Article 16 Part 1 of the Law of the Russian Federation. Thus, you can try to solve the problem peacefully by referring to the laws.
Where to send a complaint?
Our lawyers advise you to defend your interests and act within the law, and immediately contact the Central Bank of Russia, to which all well-known insurance companies actually report. All you have to do is go to the official website and fill out the electronic application form.
You can go the other way and contact:
- FAS;
- Prosecutor's Office;
- RSA;
- Federal Antimonopoly Service;
- court as a last resort.
It is important to understand that the law is on your side, and awareness will only be beneficial, because unlawful actions to impose other services may result in the revocation of the license of the insurance company.
Don't be afraid to emphasize art. 15.34.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, which clearly states fines for dishonest companies, and they are impressive.
Ways to refuse additional services
In reality, it is quite difficult to refuse other services when obtaining MTPL insurance. Many insurance companies, pursuing their own interests, do not want to make concessions, find a bunch of arguments and literally impose their product in the form of additional insurance. insurance.
Probably the most difficult thing is to convict a company of violating the rights of motorists and then prove the violations, for example, in court.
How you can opt out:
- First, discuss voluntary denial with your insurance company. Hint that you will strive to be right and, in case of refusal, seek further help from lawyers or the Auto Insurers Union.
- Try to conclude a clean contract with the insurance company employees and without any additional services.
- Bring a voice recorder or hidden microphone with you. Record conversations with employees. The video recording is evidence and motive for filing a lawsuit.
- Pay attention to the recorded refusal in the application if the insurers do not want to draw up a compulsory motor liability insurance agreement without including additional insurance. services.
- Remind us of the provisions in the legislation that indicate the illegality of actions when imposing other services.
- File a complaint with the Central Bank to resolve the legality of the insurers' actions if all efforts are futile.
How to get money back with additional insurance?
If additional insurance has already been imposed, but the money has not been paid, then it is worth returning it. But companies are often in no hurry to do this.
What can a motorist do:
- Contact the company no later than 5 days from the date of signing the MTPL agreement.
- Fill out the application form for refusal of unnecessary services and do not forget to state that in case of refusal to return the funds, the next complaint will be sent to other higher authorities.
In fact, in practice, motorists often have no choice but to intimidate insurers. But this is not a crime. As a rule, employees of insurance companies are aware that in case of violations of this kind they may simply be left without a license if revoked by the Central Bank and there are no special problems in returning the funds.
The imposed insurance must be paid in full. If, nevertheless, the employee refuses to pay the money, then demand that such a refusal be made in writing.
Terms of refund for imposed insurance
The imposed insurance must be paid in full within 5 working days if the contract has not yet entered into force. In the event of entry into force, a cost equal to the period while the contract was in force will be deducted from the total cost of insurance. Although there should also be no delays in payments.
If an insured event occurs under compulsory motor liability insurance, the company must immediately provide full financial assistance to the motorist involved in the accident and injured. The amount must be returned within a maximum of 3 days.
Frequently asked questions about DSAGO
How to choose a company for DSAGO insurance?
DSAGO insurance is a popular procedure for many regions of the country. However, increasing cases of fraud and “speculation” on this issue have forced companies to significantly tighten measures.
- SK Alpha company. The company offers to issue an individual SAGO policy only together with CASCO. This agreement does not apply to cars produced by domestic manufacturers that are more than 5 years old and foreign cars that are not more than 10 years old.
- Rosgosstrakh. Like any other company, Rosgosstrakh provides individual SAGO only if an additional CASCO policy is issued. However, the price of registering an individual SAGO in this company may seem significant. Let’s say if your car costs, for example, 150 thousand rubles, then a fifth of it will have to be spent when taking out a policy.
- SK RES-Garantiya. A good company that offers services for issuing an individual car insurance policy. However, this company has a limitation: when registering your vehicle, the amount of coverage cannot exceed half a million rubles.
- SK ASK. A reliable company, but there are certain nuances. In addition to the insignificant price of insurance coverage, upon the occurrence of an insured event, an emergency commissioner will definitely arrive at the scene of the accident and record the damage caused. This is all done to avoid possible speculative situations.
The current DSAGO rules significantly limit car owners, however, the demand for this service does not fade. Perhaps the government will introduce appropriate amendments, thereby helping to resolve this issue, taking into account the wishes of motorists.
Imposing additional insurance to OSAGO in numbers
Is it legal to impose, for example, life insurance under compulsory motor liability insurance? The driver has every right to refuse unnecessary options without any consequences, since this violates his rights as a consumer.
The opinion of auto lawyers on this issue is unequivocal, because, according to the changes made to the relevant law in 2014, it is allowed to conclude auto insurance contracts without completing addendums. The regulatory act prohibits any imposition; violating companies face a fine of 50,000 rubles (see Article 15.34.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation).
In case of repeated offense, the company's license will be suspended.
It is surprising that insurance employees assure consumers otherwise, arguing that this is not their initiative, but the requirements of the law. So is life insurance necessary for compulsory motor liability insurance? No, this issue is the responsibility of the car enthusiast himself.
In the case of imposing additional services, you must first of all follow Art. 16 of the Law on the Protection of Consumer Rights, No. 40-FZ of April 25, 2002 “On OSAGO” and the Code of Administrative Offenses. In accordance with Art. 445 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, if a party is obliged to conclude an agreement (public offer) and evades this obligation, forced conclusion in court is possible.
RSA continues to monitor sales of MTPL contracts on a daily basis. First of all, in those regions where the situation with the implementation of policies is the most difficult. When the Central Bank announced changes in the direction of growth (by an average of 50%) the basic rates of compulsory motor insurance, which began to operate on April 12, in most regions of the Russian Federation a critical situation arose with the availability of these policies.
RSA published preliminary results of daily monitoring. Over the five days of April (from 6 to 10) 2015, the union received 235 claims against insurance companies and insurance agents, almost all of them were verbal: motorists contacted by phone or came to the RSA representative office and talked about problems with sales.
Most of the complaints relate to refusals to enter into MTPL contracts and the imposition of other insurance. The largest number of complaints was registered in the Ural Federal District - 118, of which 73 related to refusals to sell compulsory motor insurance, 38 - to the imposition of additional services, 7 - to the remoteness of branches of insurance companies. 12 appeals were accepted in the Far Eastern Federal District, 27 each in the Siberian and Southern Federal Districts, 31 in the Volga Federal District.
There have been repeated reports in the Russian press that certain companies refuse to issue an MTPL agreement without additional services. The situation turned out to be so serious that both the main market regulator, the Central Bank, and the Antimonopoly Service had to intervene in the matter.
In this situation, it is necessary to note the following: in a number of regions of the country, insurers cannot issue compulsory motor liability insurance without offering additional insurance services. Otherwise, they will work at a loss. And if clients refuse such offers, then the companies simply do not process the vehicle registration, citing the lack of necessary forms.
The cunning of insurance companies knows no bounds; they have come up with various ways to sell additional services to the client:
- Employees of the insurance company inform the client that they do not have the right to issue a pure compulsory motor liability insurance by order “from above” (for example, it is necessary to undergo maintenance from an insurance company, or to insure the life of the car owner).
- If a client refuses to issue a policy with extra services, managers claim that they have run out of forms. So come back tomorrow, in a week or a month.
- If a client wishes to apply for compulsory motor liability insurance exclusively without additional services, then no one denies him this right, but there is one nuance. Pure insurance is issued only at the central office, which is located somewhere in an abandoned village, and you will spend more on travel than on the contract here and now.
If there is evidence, the insurer will be required to issue a “motor title” without imposing additional services. In addition, the insurance company will face a large fine, as will the manager responsible for imposing voluntary insurance. The car owner can also appeal the actions of the insurance company to Rospotrebnadzor.
What are the rates for the Voluntary Insurance policy?
Next, let's talk about payments under the DSAGO policy. The maximum amount of compensation must be entered and it depends entirely on the established insurance period, the technical parameters of the vehicle (this includes the following items: type of car, year of production and engine power), the liability limit chosen by the buyer, the age of the owner and his experience.
If you are interested in the exact cost of registration, it is impossible to say a specific amount, since it can fluctuate in a different range. Tariff plans are different for each individual company. However, there are a number of indicators that affect the final amount; based on this list, you can approximately calculate your option.
- Vehicle type;
- Driver age;
- Driving experience;
- Number of people included in compulsory insurance;
- The last and perhaps most important point is the maximum payout amount that you set.

So, let’s take as an example a minimum amount of 300 thousand rubles and a duration of one year. Payments for such an insurance package will be approximately 1200-1800 rubles. And if you calculate according to the maximum indicator - 12-18 thousand per year. As is usually the case, most prefer to stick to the middle level. This means that the insured amount is 1.5 million rubles and the payment per year is about 3-5 thousand rubles.
We will also pay attention to the timing of payment - if it is established that the insured event did occur, certain conditions and requirements will be taken into account: how timely the insurer was informed, whether the culprit and the victim who needs compensation submitted all the documents correctly. All this is provided from 5 to 15 days, depending on the distance of the area in which the accident occurred

A copy of the protocol, if it was drawn up;
If available, also a copy of the resolution stating that an administrative case was initiated;
A copy of the paper confirming that a medical examination was carried out, if any.
Insurance extension procedure
The first thing you need to do in order to obtain an extended compulsory motor liability insurance policy is to collect a complete package of required documents. The application is made to the exact insurance company where the initial and mandatory compulsory motor liability insurance was issued. It can be concluded together with CASCO insurance, or a separate policy can be signed. There is only one caveat here, which is that the validity of the extended policy will be fully compulsory. This suggests that it is best to perform such actions on the same day. A professional free lawyer will provide online legal advice around the clock.

"Interesting information. It’s fortunate that I decided to find out more about this. Because lately this information has turned out to be very relevant for me. Thanks anyway.”

It is much easier to do everything if you have previously taken out a compulsory motor liability insurance policy, which is mandatory. If there are insufficient funds for payment, deductions will occur from the extended option. To receive it, you need to bring the initial policy to the insurance company, a personal passport to verify your data, a driver’s license, and a vehicle registration certificate. If the application comes from a third party in relation to the owner of the car, then a power of attorney must be issued in his name. It will serve as the basis for all registration actions.
A special category includes papers that will be necessary to process payments upon the occurrence of an insured event:
- Personal passport of the person who caused the traffic accident.
- The insurance policy itself, which can be mandatory or additional (extended).
- A registration certificate must be provided for each vehicle involved in the incident.
- The insurance company must be notified in every collision. And it is the notification of this that is brought to the insurer.
- You should obtain a certificate from the traffic police officers, in which the required elements are a seal and a definition. In addition, a completed protocol and resolution, as well as a tear-off coupon, are attached.
- If you have an expert’s report on hand, which shows the cost of the damage caused, then it should be attached to the main list of documents.
The specified list of papers is not exhaustive and can be supplemented by any others that will help indicate the need to make payments for an insured event.
