How to calculate the cost of CASCO insurance?

The concept of CASCO

CASCO is car insurance, on the basis of which a decision is made to pay money in the event of damage or theft.

CASCO. Savings and types of reimbursement

You can issue:

  1. Full insurance. Compensates for losses associated with damage or theft of a vehicle.
  2. Partial insurance. Compensates for costs associated with only part of the losses.

The benefits of CASCO

This type of insurance reimburses expenses for one or more types of risks.

There is no separate law for CASCO, and therefore insurance is regulated by a number of documents:

  1. Ch. 48 Civil Code of the Russian Federation.
  2. Law “On the organization of insurance business in the Russian Federation”.
  3. Law on Consumer Protection".
  4. Standards of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
  5. Standards of the All-Russian Union of Insurers.
  6. Resolution of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.

The main advantages of CASCO:

  • the car holder will receive compensation even if it is established that he is at fault for the damage;
  • funds are paid if the vehicle is stolen or cannot be restored;
  • in case of partial damage, the insurer will carry out repairs at its own expense.

ATTENTION!

The insurance company has the right to refuse to issue a policy without explaining the reasons.

Disadvantages of CASCO:

  • rates are determined by the insurance company, not the state;
  • In case of bankruptcy of the insurance company, payments are not guaranteed.

Differences between CASCO and OSAGO

CASCO is voluntary car insurance against any type of risk, even theft. If you are at fault for an accident, this insurance will also cover repair costs for your own vehicle.

OSAGO is compulsory motor insurance. If the fault for the accident lies with you, OSAGO will cover the losses to compensate for damages to third parties. The culprit pays for the repair of his personal car from his own wallet.

Difference between CASCO and OSAGO:

  • OSAGO is compulsory insurance, and CASCO is voluntary;
  • MTPL protects other people's vehicles, and CASCO insures against many risks;
  • under compulsory motor liability insurance there is a payment limit, and CASCO covers losses in full;
  • The cost of an OSAGO policy is significantly lower than that of a CASCO policy.

ATTENTION!

Nowadays, most drivers prefer to have both insurance policies at the same time, allowing them to protect themselves and their vehicles from the maximum number of concerns.

Therefore, to calculate the cost of CASCO and conclude an insurance contract, a large number of factors and nuances are taken into account.

The process of insurance payments under CASCO also has its own characteristics. First of all, this is a method of compensation, which is specified in the contract and can be carried out in the form of placing the damaged car for repairs at a service station, or by transferring funds to the client’s account. Tariffs for CASCO

Tariff changes are influenced by many factors:

  • indicators on thefts of a certain make and model of vehicles in the region;
  • the price of spare parts and the cost of a standard hour for maintenance services for a car brand in a populated area;
  • period of operation;
  • engine power;
  • age and driving experience of all car owners;
  • their insurance history (frequency of accidents and insurance amounts paid);
  • additional policy services;
  • type of transport security device;
  • form of parking - garage, parking lot or street;
  • type of control - left- or right-hand drive.

What is the cost of a CASCO policy?

Due to the fact that CASCO is one of the types of voluntary vehicle insurance, its pricing is regulated by the insurance organizations themselves, and not by the state. Therefore, the size and frequency of payment of the insurance premium for a policy in two seemingly similar insurance companies may turn out to be completely different. The amount of the insurance tariff is set on the basis of internal performance indicators of any insurance company, such as loss statistics, profit margins, individual and generally accepted conditions for concluding a CASCO policy and ratings.

To calculate CASCO , you should take into account all the characteristic features of the car, data on the age and experience of all admitted drivers and any other information received from the owner that will be useful in determining the cost of insurance. The CASCO calculator will help you simplify your calculation system.

, which you can use by simply following the link.

To conduct an online CASCO calculation , you need to enter the following data:

  1. Select make and model.
  2. Indicate the year of manufacture and time of start of operation of the vehicle.
  3. Engine power in horsepower.
  4. The actual market value of the car.
  5. Information about the age and experience of all registered drivers.
  6. Is the vehicle collateral?
  7. The preferred frequency of payment is one payment or in installments.

These parameters for calculating the cost of a CASCO policy are basic for all insurers. But depending on the insurance company, their composition can sometimes be supplemented with even the most absurd items. Such, for example, as the eye color of the owner of the vehicle or his professional employment, but in the Russian insurance market this is not common.

Ways to save on CASCO

There are a number of options that can help you save on this type of insurance.

Franchise

The deductible is the portion of the loss that is not covered by the insurance company. The presence of a franchise significantly reduces the price of the policy.

There are two types of franchise:

  1. Conditional. If the loss is less than the deductible amount, the driver receives nothing. Otherwise, the insurance company will provide full compensation.
  2. Unconditional. With such a deductible, the insurance payment is reduced in any situation.

ATTENTION!

The deductible may have a fixed form or a percentage of the sum insured.

Motor vehicle insurance against one type of risk

Sometimes the insurance company provides a discount in case of partial car insurance. The client is asked to leave only the main types of risks and not include others in the policy.

Special offers

Insurance companies provide a discount when simultaneously issuing two types of policies - CASCO and MTPL or installing a special telematics device in the car.

ATTENTION!

The device records and transmits to the insurer data on the speed of transport and the driving style of the motorist.

If telematics confirms the absence of an accident this year, the cost of the policy may be reduced by 20%. For those who like to play hard, it will increase in accordance with the number of violations.

The discount is not provided immediately, since the insurer needs time to process statistics from the device. This may take from 2 to 12 months.

Registration of CASCO insurance for a period of less than a year

This option will be beneficial in the following situations:

  1. The owner of the car is planning to sell it in the near future or transport it to another locality for transfer to a new owner.
  2. The driver does not plan to use the car for some time, perhaps during the winter season.

Which companies do not refuse CASCO registration?

Currently, a number of organizations provide insurance for cars older than 10 years. The driver has the opportunity to familiarize himself with the main conditions offered and choose the most convenient option. These companies include:

  • VTB Insurance;
  • Rosgosstrakh;
  • Ingosstrakh;
  • AlfaStrakhovanie;
  • Tinkoff Insurance;
  • RESO guarantee.

When considering the question of why they cannot insure a car and what to do, it should be noted that the insurance companies represented also have the right not to issue a policy. However, refusal requires compelling reasons, of which the owner of the vehicle must be notified.

The conditions offered by these companies are almost the same:

  • The content of the program is selected individually.
  • The driver has the opportunity to choose a list of insurance risks.
  • CASCO insurance is issued in full or in part.
  • Allows payment by installments.
  • The minimum franchise amount is from 3%.

Taking this into account, we can conclude that CASCO registration for an old car is carried out on an individual basis. For new cars, there are already ready-made car insurance programs, one of which the vehicle owner can choose.

Registration of an insured event

In the event of an accident, the sequence of driver actions is as follows:

  1. Stop, turn on the hazard warning lights and display a warning triangle.
  2. Registration of an accident in accordance with the European protocol without involving the police, if the damage is less than 100 thousand rubles. and there is no basis for dispute. To do this, fill out an accident notification. The European protocol limit can be increased to 400 thousand rubles by using the mobile application “OSAGO Assistant”. To do this, both participants in the accident must have access to their personal accounts on the State Services portal.
  3. Call the traffic police and ambulance if more than two cars are involved in the accident, damage to other property or people is caused. Upon completion, obtain a conclusion from the traffic police inspectors in the form of a resolution, protocol or determination.
  4. Keeping the car in its original position until the police arrive.
  5. Photographing the scene of an accident and damaged vehicles from various angles. The maximum number of details reduces the grounds for refusal of compensation for damage by the insurer.
  6. When damage to a car is caused by unknown people or a natural phenomenon, it is advisable to find eyewitnesses of the incident. Write down the full name, telephone contact and residential address of witnesses. Their testimony will serve as confirmation in the event of a dispute with the insurance company or determination of the truth in court.
  7. Notification of representatives of the insurance company. Most often, the customer service telephone number is indicated in the policy. If there is a different communication option specified there, stick to it.

The insurer must be notified of the accident immediately after damage has been established. The operator registers the request and explains the sequence of actions. Strictly follow the instructions and comply with all further requirements of the insurance company.

ATTENTION!

Do not repair the vehicle until the company has made a decision regarding compensation for damages. Otherwise, payment may be denied.

What types of car insurance are provided in the Russian Federation?

In accordance with current legislation, insurance companies make payments to car owners insured under the following conditions:
  • OSAGO;
  • Green map;
  • CASCO.

Since the car is recognized as a source of increased danger to other persons, its owner must necessarily insure his liability for damage from the operation of the car. Harm can be caused not only to the property of citizens, but also to their health and life. It is impossible to avoid taking out a compulsory motor liability insurance policy.

Under compulsory motor liability insurance, it is the potential possibility of causing harm with the help of a car that is insured. It is not replaced by any other types of insurance. The full name of this type of risk reduction is compulsory civil liability insurance for vehicle owners.

ATTENTION !!! A type of compulsory motor liability insurance is the Green Card. This is the same auto liability insurance, but only in case of an accident with a foreign element. Those. a person going, say, to Europe with his own car, must also obtain a Green Card policy. In the event of damage caused by an accident on the territory of a foreign country, the insurance company will compensate for the damage caused. The green card does not replace compulsory motor liability insurance.

The name "CASCO" is interpreted in different ways. In general, this term comes from the Spanish word “casco”, one of the meanings of which is a helmet. Russian car enthusiasts decipher CASCO in their own way: “Comprehensive car insurance, except liability.” This transcript is not official. The essence of this type is to provide insurance payments in the event of any damage received by your own car.

Photographing damage

If new defects are noticed on a vehicle, it is worth taking photographs of the damage, even if the insurer does not require them.

Uniform standards for photographs are determined by the Bank of the Russian Federation:

  • 2–4 frames of vehicles with a good view of the location and clarity of license plates;
  • at least 2 photographs of the damaged part;
  • horizontal position of the camera when taking photographs;
  • recording in the photo the car, the scene of the incident, and preferably a sign with the name of the street and the number of the building or other recognizable object;
  • minor damage must be removed at a minimum distance.

ATTENTION!

In the event of a controversial situation, the employee must be sure that the vehicle was not touched after the incident. In this regard, do not rush to wash off the dirt from it or make other changes.

Receiving a Refund

Specific compensation criteria are specified in the insurance contract. Each insurance company may have its own.

Basic conditions:

  1. Damage must be an insured event.
  2. The policyholder complied with all insurance rules.

The following persons can apply for coverage of losses:

  1. Insured or beneficiary. The insured may be the driver or owner of the car, or another person who has entered into an insurance contract. The beneficiary is the party to whom the payment is due. If you buy a car on a car loan and have CASCO insurance, the beneficiary is the lender.
  2. An authorized representative of the policyholder or beneficiary. The insurance company will require you to provide a notarized power of attorney.
  3. Heirs. In this case, you must have a certificate of inheritance with you.

Compensation options under the CASCO program

There are three methods of compensation for losses under CASCO:

  1. Repair. To restore the car, the insurer sends it to a technical service center. Sometimes the policyholder is given the right to personal choice between a service station and a car service, if such a point is specified in the contract. When repairs are completed, the bill is paid by the insurance company, not the owner. If the insurance provides for a deductible, the owner must pay the amount before receiving a referral for repairs.
  2. Cash payment. Its volume is determined based on the results of damage examination. If the owner does not agree with the assessment of the insurance company, he has the right to resort to the services of independent experts. Another option for receiving payment is to provide payments from the auto repair shop confirming payment for the repair work. The list of service centers is specified in the contract. Funds in such circumstances are issued in cash or transferred to a bank account.
  3. Replacement of lost vehicles with similar ones. This form of compensation applies when the car is not recoverable or is stolen. This point must be specified in the insurance contract. If it is missing, the damage is compensated in cash.

What is CASCO?

CASCO is a legal term used in the insurance industry to define a product of protection against multiple risks. With its help, drivers minimize possible expenses on the roads in the event of an accident or damage to the car as a result of a natural disaster. Compensation under the policy allows you to avoid unnecessary expenses, even if the insured person was at fault for the accident.

The main features of CASCO are:

  • The cost is higher than for a compulsory MTPL policy.
  • The owner of the car receives good compensation if the car is destroyed or severely damaged in an accident.
  • The policy includes the maximum number of possible risks.
  • Transfer of funds under the policy is carried out even if the culprits were not found, be it theft or accident.
  • Compensation is always made, even if the insured person was at fault for the accident.
  • Payment can be made in any convenient way: cash or to a bank card.
  • If desired, compensation is provided in the form of vehicle repairs at a service center.

This type of insurance is a mandatory requirement of banks when applying for a car loan. With its help, they minimize the risks if the vehicle is severely damaged in an accident, cannot be restored, or is stolen.

Attention! Payment is not provided in case of drunk driving, use of the car in a faulty condition, failure to comply with basic safety rules, driving without documents or damage as a result of force majeure.

Actions before purchasing a policy

Before purchasing an insurance policy, you should take a number of actions:

  1. Check that the selected insurance company has a valid license to issue CASCO insurance.
  2. Learn basic concepts. “Theft”, “damage”, “theft” - these definitions are interpreted by insurance companies in their own way. Read the terms and conditions of insurance in detail; do not hesitate to ask clarifying questions before concluding an agreement.
  3. Study the terms and conditions of insurance. This important clause of the contract is indicated directly in the text, sometimes attached to the main document. Remember to read the rules before signing the contract, as you may not be able to comply with some of them. For example, sometimes closed parking lots are not equipped with a security system or are not able to provide documents confirming its presence.
  4. Find out the rules of interaction between the insurer and you. Specify how quickly and in what way you are obliged to notify the company about the insurance situation that has occurred. Contradiction to the conditions leads to a reduction or complete cancellation of the payment.
  5. Clarify the timing of compensation in advance, that is, by what point the payment will be provided or the car will be repaired.

How much does the policy cost?

To calculate the exact cost, you must first familiarize yourself with the tariffs offered by the company. Prices vary significantly across different insurance companies. In addition, the calculation is made based on a large number of factors.

Among them:

  • Make, model, year of manufacture of the vehicle;
  • Degree of wear;
  • Owner's driving experience;
  • Quality of car care;
  • Initial and market value of the car;
  • The number of insured events provided for by the program;
  • Availability of a franchise;
  • Sum insured.

It is important to know! When calculating, an extensive list of coefficients is used, so it is difficult to find out the price of the policy on your own. To do this, you can use special calculators, through which the cost of CASCO is calculated.

Registration of a policy

The CASCO registration sequence consists of several stages:

  1. Preparation of documents. Passport, a set of documents for the car (registration certificate or sales contract), technical inspection certificate, driver’s licenses of persons who will be included in the policy.
  2. Visiting an insurance company on a potentially insured vehicle. The car is inspected by an expert to record possible defects and a conclusion is drawn up based on the results of the inspection. The insurer is not responsible for existing transport imperfections.
  3. Familiarization with the terms of the contract offered by the insurance company. It is important to know what exactly motor vehicles are protected from and under what circumstances you are entitled to payment.
  4. Signing and paying the cost of the insurance contract in case of suitable conditions.
  5. Receipt of the policy, receipt of payment, insurance instructions.

ATTENTION!

The insurance policy comes into effect from the date specified in it.

Is it possible to receive the insurance amount if the driver is not included in the policy?

The Supreme Court issued an official clarification according to which insurance companies are obliged to pay compensation under CASCO, regardless of who was driving when the vehicle was involved in a traffic accident.

This provision has come into force since the beginning of 2014. According to it, compensation is paid to the policyholder included in the CASCO policy.

According to the court, the basis is that by concluding an agreement, the insurance company insures the vehicle, but in no way the person who was driving.

And in conclusion, it should be noted that when concluding an insurance agreement under CASCO, you need to carefully study the list of insurance cases paid by the company in order to avoid troubles regarding the implementation of payments.

If an accident occurs, then to determine the exact amount of damage it is better to contact law enforcement agencies to obtain supporting documents.

What is said in the CASCO agreement from the VSK company, read the article: CASCO VSK. You can find information about Mini CASCO from Ingosstrakh in this article.

About the CASCO policy of the Rosgosstrakh company is described here.

Actions upon the occurrence of an insured event

The general algorithm of actions includes the following components:

  1. Report to the traffic police by calling 102 or 112 if the car is stolen or you are involved in a serious accident.
  2. Call an ambulance by calling 103 or 112 if people were injured in an accident.
  3. Call the fire department by number 101 or 112 if there is an explosion or fire.
  4. Notifying your insurance company using the number specified in the contract about the insured event.
  5. Submitting a written application to the insurer within the period specified by the insurance conditions.

ATTENTION!

Try to always have with you the contact information of your own insurer, as well as the number and validity period of your insurance policy. It is optimal to save this data on your personal phone.

When using a car, the driver must carry with him a package of documents:

  • driver's license or temporary permit to drive a vehicle;
  • vehicle registration certificate;
  • OSAGO policy in paper form;
  • information about CASCO: insurance company contacts, policy number and validity period;
  • an incident statement and a pen to fill it out.

Reasons for refusing reimbursement

Let's consider common grounds for refusal to cover damages:

  • the situation does not fall under the terms of the insurance contract;
  • the driver or passenger was injured, not the vehicle;
  • the insured vehicle was damaged purposefully by its owner or a person authorized to drive it;
  • the car was damaged while being driven by a driver who is not included in the policy or does not have a driving license;
  • vehicles were damaged when used as non-personal transport (taxi services or for driving lessons);
  • the motorist was under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
  • the defect occurred due to normal wear and tear;
  • the true reasons for the insured event were hidden;
  • the policyholder did not fulfill the obligations specified in the contract and conditions;
  • the insured incident occurred after the expiration of the validity period of the insurance contract.

Reasons for refusal

Many drivers are faced with the question of why they don’t insure a car older than 10 years in 2021. Companies have the right to refuse insurance without explanation. But often it is age that acts as the main factor influencing the decision.

The main reasons include:

  • Age over 9 years;
  • Noticeable wear and tear on the machine;
  • The presence of faults identified during technical inspection;
  • The car was stolen, but later returned to the owner;
  • The vehicle was produced in the USA;
  • The car was involved in an accident or other insurance events occurred;
  • The owner was deprived of his license for gross traffic violations.

Most often, vehicle owners whose age reaches 7-8 years or more are denied a policy, provided they have a foreign-made car. This is explained by the fact that during this period it is already considered worn out, and the likelihood of breakdowns increases. However, in some cases, vehicles that have been in use for more than 10 years are insured. This should be taken into account by all drivers wondering whether cars older than 20 years will be insured.

It is important to know! Despite the fact that some companies can provide CASCO insurance for an old car, this option is not always convenient and profitable. Therefore, before applying, it is extremely important to carefully read the basic information about the policy, find out the pricing principles and make sure there are no errors.

When is car insurance needed?

Complaint in case of disputes with the insurance company

If a conflict situation arises between you and the insurer, the first step is to try to resolve the dispute out of court. First, file a complaint with your insurance company. This can be done in person at the office or by calling the claims registration service number. The complaint is drawn up in free form.

ATTENTION!

A financial expert examines controversial situations of insurers and their clients in a pre-trial manner free of charge.

The trial period lasts up to 30 days. If the decision does not suit the insurance company or the car owner, they have the right to challenge it in court.

What will affect the amount of the insurance premium?

Of course, the age of the car. The higher it is, the higher the coefficient and the higher the cost of CASCO. For example, the insurer VSK does not insure cars older than 8 years. The CASCO price for a new car will be lower.

IMPORTANT !!! The age of the car enthusiast is also important. Insurance companies consider the age from 21 to 65 years to be a favorable period for driving. Everyone younger and older will pay more for insurance.

The presence of an alarm can reduce the price of a CASCO policy.

The deductible issued by this insurance company (the amount not paid during insurance) reduces the price of insurance.

The following circumstances also reduce (or increase) the amount of the insurance premium.
  1. Car make and model. It's no secret that there are cars that are especially loved by car thieves. The top five most stolen cars include Russian Ladas, Japanese Toyota and Nissan, Korean Hyundai and Kia. Tariffs for them will be higher than for less stolen cars.
  2. Length of driving experience. The less, the higher the payment to the insurer, and vice versa.
  3. Car class. For sedans, the price of insurance will be higher than, for example, for SUVs.
  4. Cars purchased on credit are also insured at higher rates than those for which the entire amount has already been paid.
  5. Life and health insurance in the same company reduces the cost of CASCO.

Features of CASCO insurance for credit cars

When insuring a collateral vehicle, the policy protects it first. When a car serves as collateral for a lender, he is one of the beneficiaries. If the borrower stops paying the debt, the bank has the right to take the vehicle, sell it and repay the debt.

The lender classifies the car as an unreliable collateral because it could be stolen or significantly damaged in an accident. In this regard, the bank prefers to include in the car loan agreement the rule of vehicle insurance against the risks of “damage” and “theft”. In the event of an insured event, the loan debt will be covered by payment from the insurance company.

ATTENTION!

The payment is distributed to compensate the principal debt and interest under the loan agreement. If, after paying off the debt, some of the funds remain from the insured amount, it is transferred to the individual.

What “age” of a car is acceptable for CASCO registration?

Each insurance company has its own restrictions on the “age” of vehicles that they agree to insure under CASCO. The average figures are as follows: 7 years for Russian-made cars, 10 years for foreign cars. Cars that have not reached these marks can be insured under standard programs, including with a note on payments without taking into account the natural wear and tear of the vehicle.

There are insurance companies that have increased the limit to a service life of 12 years, but there are a number of additional conditions for concluding an insurance contract. This may be a payment only taking into account natural wear and tear, or the absence of insurance compensation for the cost of consumables for vehicle repair, or insurance only against damage, and so on.

You can try to insure older cars with CASCO insurance, but you will have to look for an insurance company that will agree to such conditions. The insurer may agree to conclude a contract on individual terms, the only question is how much it will cost the car owner.

If the car is old, the insurer may require a mandatory expert assessment to assess the insurable value of the car, as well as check its condition.

By the way, there are insurance companies that agree to insure even rare vehicles; it’s just a matter of money.
